Germany had the urge to split its region between the Protestants in the north and the Catholics in the south because of the rising conflicts in these religious factions at the time of the "Age of Reformation." The continuous tensions between these two factions could rattle the political structure of Germany.
This is a complex question, but I believe they are not valued as highly as men. For example, there was a law that Chinese couples could only have one child. If they had another child, they had to give it up for adoption. Because females are not as valued, many couples who gave birth to a daughter would give them up for adoption and try for a son instead.
