Let x represent the price they charge hardcover book and let y represent the price they charge for a paperback book.

4x + 10y = 62 . . . . . (1)
5x + 7y = 61 . . . . . . (2)

(1) x 5 ⇒ 20x + 50y = 310 . . . . (3)
(2) x 4 ⇒ 20x + 28y = 244 . . . . (4)

(3) - (4) ⇒ 22y = 66
y = 66 / 22 = 3

4x + 10(3) = 62
4x = 62 - 30 = 32
x = 32 / 4 = 8

Therefore, the price for a hardcover book is $8 and the price for a paperback book is $3.

The heights of women in the USA are normally distributed with a mean of 64 inches and a standard deviation of 3 inches.
Rainbow [258]

Answer:

(a) 0.2061

(b) 0.2514

(c) 0

Step-by-step explanation:

Let <em>X</em> denote the heights of women in the USA.

It is provided that <em>X</em> follows a normal distribution with a mean of 64 inches and a standard deviation of 3 inches.

(a)

Compute the probability that the sample mean is greater than 63 inches as follows:

P(\bar X>63)=P(\frac{\bar X-\mu}{\sigma/\sqrt{n}}>\frac{63-64}{3/\sqrt{6}})\\\\=P(Z>-0.82)\\\\=P(Z

Thus, the probability that the sample mean is greater than 63 inches is 0.2061.

(b)

Compute the probability that a randomly selected woman is taller than 66 inches as follows:

P(X>66)=P(\frac{X-\mu}{\sigma}>\frac{66-64}{3})\\\\=P(Z>0.67)\\\\=1-P(Z

Thus, the probability that a randomly selected woman is taller than 66 inches is 0.2514.

(c)

Compute the probability that the mean height of a random sample of 100 women is greater than 66 inches as follows:

P(\bar X>66)=P(\frac{\bar X-\mu}{\sigma/\sqrt{n}}>\frac{66-64}{3/\sqrt{100}})\\\\=P(Z>6.67)\\\\\ =0

Thus, the probability that the mean height of a random sample of 100 women is greater than 66 inches is 0.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given: , US adults spent on average 29 hours per month using the PC internet.

As the me spent on the PC internet follows a normal distribution.

And there is 50% of the population lies above the mean and below the mean.

Mr. Smith wants to order some pizza and cheese pizza cost $11 and pepperoni pizza cost $12.50 if you bought 13 pieces total and
Triss [41]

Answer: Mr Smith bought 7 pepperoni pizza

Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1

cost of cheese pizza  =$11

pepperoni pizza cost =$12.50

let number cheese pizza be represented as c

and number of pepperoni pizza be represented as p

such that the total number of pizza  bought which equals 13 can be represented as

c+ p= 13

and total cost of both pizza  can be expressed as

11c+ 12.50p =153.50

Step 2 Solving

 c+ p= 13

11c+ 12.50p =153.50

By elimination method, Multiply equation 1 by 11 and subtract the new equation from equation 2

11c+ 12.50p =153.50

11c+ 11p=143.

1.5p =10.5

p= 10.5/ 1.5 =7

c+ p= 13

c= 13-p =13-7=6

Therefore Mr Smith bought 6 cheese pizza and 7 pepperoni pizza
