The other guy answered correctly, but with no explanation. So I will try to explain why. This is a system of equations. You know J( Jack) is 10 years older than P( Priscilla). So J = P + 10. You also know they both add up to 172. So J + P = 172.  To solve for P, get J by itself. In the 2nd equation, just subtract P from both sides to get J = 172- P. Now put the second parts together to get P + 10 = 172 - P. Add P to get 2P + 10 = 172. Now subtract 10 from both sides to get 2P = 162. Divide both sides by 2 to get P = 81. To get J, replace P in the first equation to get J = 81 + 10 = 91. Now you can check with the second equation. 91 + 81 = 172. So J = 91, and P = 81.

I believe that Jack would be 91 years old and Priscilla would be 81 years old.

\frac{3}{5} × 4 \frac{1}{6}

First, convert 4\frac{1}{6} to an improper fraction. Use this rule: a \frac{b}{c} = \frac{ac+b}{c} / Your problem should look like: \frac{3}{5} × \frac{4x6+1}{6}
Second, simplify 4 × 6 to 24. / Your problem should look like: \frac{3}{5} × \frac{24+1}{6}
Third, simplify 24 + 1 to 25. / Your problem should look like: \frac{3}{5} × \frac{25}{6}
Fourth, apply this rule: \frac{a}{b} × \frac{c}{d} = \frac{ac}{bd} / Your problem should look like: \frac{3x25}{5x6}
Fifth, simplify 3 × 25 to 75. / Your problem should look like: \frac{75}{5x6}
Sixth, simplify 5 × 6 to 30. / Your problem should look like: \frac{75}{30}
Seventh, simplify. / Your problem should look like: \frac{5}{2}
Eighth, convert to mixed fraction. / Your problem should look like: 2\frac{1}{2}

Denzel has a new puppy that weighs 12 pounds. The vet says that the puppy is now at about 20% of its adult weight. What will be
olchik [2.2K]

Answer:

60 pounds

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the adult weight, multiply 12 by 5.

Since 12 pounds is 20% of the adult weight, 100% of the adult weight would be 12 times 5.

12(5)

= 60

So, the adult weight of the puppy will be 60 pounds

In a certain section of Southern California, the distribution of monthly rent for a one-bedroom apartment has a mean of $2,275 a
KATRIN_1 [288]

Answer:

100% probability of selecting a sample of 65 one-bedroom apartments and finding the mean to be at least $2,095 per month

Step-by-step explanation:

To solve this question, we need to understand the normal probability distribution and the central limit theorem.

Normal Probability Distribution:

Problems of normal distributions can be solved using the z-score formula.

In a set with mean \mu and standard deviation \sigma, the z-score of a measure X is given by:

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}

The Z-score measures how many standard deviations the measure is from the mean. After finding the Z-score, we look at the z-score table and find the p-value associated with this z-score. This p-value is the probability that the value of the measure is smaller than X, that is, the percentile of X. Subtracting 1 by the p-value, we get the probability that the value of the measure is greater than X.

Central Limit Theorem

The Central Limit Theorem estabilishes that, for a normally distributed random variable X, with mean \mu and standard deviation \sigma, the sampling distribution of the sample means with size n can be approximated to a normal distribution with mean \mu and standard deviation s = \frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n}}.

For a skewed variable, the Central Limit Theorem can also be applied, as long as n is at least 30.

Mean of $2,275 and a standard deviation of $290.

This means that \mu = 2275, \sigma = 290

Sample of 65:

This means that n = 65, s = \frac{290}{\sqrt{65}}

Finding the mean to be at least $2,095 per month

This is 1 subtracted by the p-value of Z when X = 2095. So

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}

By the Central Limit Theorem

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{s}

Z = \frac{2095 - 2275}{\frac{290}{\sqrt{65}}}

Z = -5

Z = -5 has a p-value of 0.

1 - 0 = 1

100% probability of selecting a sample of 65 one-bedroom apartments and finding the mean to be at least $2,095 per month
