Answer:

20 mangoes.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Total  number of mangoes, a trader bought = x

A trader bought at the rate of 4 mangoes for 10 naira.

Five of the mangoes were bad.

He sold the remaining at the rate of 5 mangoes for 20 naira.

He made a gain of 10 naira

Question asked:

Total  number of mangoes, a trader bought = x = ?

Solution:

Unitary method

Cost price of  4 mangoes =  10 naira.

Cost price of  1 mango = \frac{10}{4}

Cost price of x mango = \frac{10}{4}\times x= \frac{5}{2} x

As 5 of the mangoes were bad and he sold the remaining mangoes, then Total number of mangoes sold =  x-5

Sale price of 5 mangoes = 20 naira

Sale price of 1 mango = \frac{20}{5}

Sale price x-5 of mango = \frac{20}{5}\times(x-5)=4(x-5)=4x-20

Now, as we know,

Gain = Sale price - cost price

10 = 4x-20 -\frac{5}{2} x\\ 10=4x-\frac{5}{2} x-20\\10=\frac{8x-5x}{2} -20

10 =\frac{3x}{2} -20

Adding both sides by 20

30=\frac{3x}{2}

Multiplying both sides by 2

60 = 3x

Dividing both sides by 3

x=20

Therefore, total number of mangoes, a trader bought is 20.

Julius is studying populations of robins in the local area. He counts 12
AleksAgata [21]
Well, he recaptured 3 out of the 7 he marked. We can presume that the other 5 are gone. The population would be 8 robins, because 4 of the robins Julius marked were not recaptured. Therefore, the population is around 8-10 robins.

What is the equation of the following line? Be sure to scroll down first to see
topjm [15]

Answer: (f)

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

Line that passes through (-\frac{1}{2},3) and (0,0)

Using two point form, equation of a line is given by

\Rightarrow \dfrac{y-y_1}{x-x_1}=\dfrac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}

Insert the values

\Rightarrow \dfrac{y-0}{x-0}=\dfrac{3-0}{-\frac{1}{2}-0}\\\\\Rightarrow \dfrac{y}{x}=-6\\\\\Rightarrow y=-6x

Thus, option (f) is correct

The width of a deck is 5 feet shorter than its length. The equation that represents this situation is y = x – 5. What does x rep
ollegr [7]

X represents the length of a deck. There are three parts to this equations. The 1. width, 2. the length, and 3. the 5 feet shorter. Using the key words, y = the width of a deck (uses the term is which means =) So that takes the width part out of the equation. Then, 5 feet shorter means -5 than a number. That takes away the 5 feet shorter part of the equation. That leaves x to equal the length of the deck.
