The Articles of Confederation were the first written form of government of the United States after the independence from Britain was obtained; it represented the value of limited government delegating most of the power to the states to retain it's sovereignty, prevent tyranny and the abuse of power of a central government. The central government under the Articles of Confederation was a weak unicameral government (Congress) that lacked power to collect taxes or regulate commerce, which led to an unstable country and to the creation of a stronger government in the Constitutional Convention.
