States with a smaller population were apparently more comfortable with the old Articles of Confederation.

Further Explanation:

The Articles of Confederation was primary system of government in the United Sates of America's after obtaining liberation from British rule. The purpose of this constitution was to provide very little authority to the central government. Americans required a diminutive central government because while they were immigrants under the administration of Great Britain, there was a totalitarian central government which caused them to subversive.

To do this, they found a federal administration with just a parliamentary branch also known as Congress. In Congress, each nation had one representative. This made more trivial states like New Jersey and Delaware was happy because they had limited smaller populations in contrast to nations like Virginia. However, they had just as much administrative authority and authority in Congress as these larger states.

Ultimately, the Articles of Confederation established to be an extremely inefficient form of administration. This is why the Constitutional Convention was assembled. This administration to the formulation of the US Constitution we have now.

States with a smaller population were probably happier with the old Articles of Confederation.

Further Explanation:

The Articles of Confederation was America's first system of government after becoming free from British rule. The goal of this constitution was to give very little power to the central (aka federal) government. Americans wanted a small central government because while they were colonists under the control of Great Britain, there was a tyrannical/too powerful central government that caused them to rebel.

In order to do this, they create a federal government with just a legislative branch (aka Congress). In Congress, each state had one delegate. This made smaller states like New Jersey, Delaware, etc. happy because they had much smaller populations in comparison to states like Virginia. However, they had just as much political power and influence in Congress as these larger states.

Ultimately, the Articles of Confederation proved to be a highly ineffective form of government. This is why the Constitutional Convention was called. This lead to the creation of the US Constitution we have today.

Why couldn’t African-Americans or poor White farmers start their own farms?
Mnenie [13.5K]
Although the tenant/sharecropping system is usually thought of as a development that occurred after the Civil War, this type of farming existed in antebellum Mississippi, especially in the areas of the state with few slaves or plantations, such as northeast Mississippi.

Not all whites who emigrated to even the poorest parts of Mississippi in the years before the Civil War had the funds to purchase a farm. As a result, most of the men who headed these households worked as tenant farmers or sharecroppers. Many rented land from or farmed on shares with family members and typically received favorable arrangements, but some antebellum tenants or sharecroppers had to deal with landlords who were primarily concerned with making profits rather than helping struggling farmers move toward landownership.

Consider the sharecropping arrangement that Richard Bridges of Marshall County worked out with his landlord, T. L. Treadwell, in the 1850s. Treadwell provided Bridges with land, livestock, and tools; the landlord also advanced Bridges some food. Bridges grew corn and cotton, and at the end of the year, he had to give Treadwell one-sixth of the corn he grew and five-sixths of the cotton raised. From his share of the crop, Bridges also had to pay Treadwell for the use of the livestock and tools and for the food advanced. Obviously, Bridges worked the entire year primarily for the food he needed to live. He had no opportunity to make any money from this arrangement and accumulate the capital that would allow him to purchase his own farm.
