Harry is trying to solve the equation y = 2x2 − x − 6 using the quadratic formula. He has made an error in one of the steps belo

w. Find the step where Harry went wrong. Step 1: x equals the negative of negative 1 plus or minus the square root of the quantity negative one squared minus 4 times 2 Step 2: x equals the negative of negative 1 plus or minus the square root of negative one plus forty-eight all over two times 2 Step 3: x equals the negative of negative 1 plus or minus the square root of forty-seven all over two times 2. Step 4: x equals 1 plus or minus the square root of forty-seven all over 4.

The error made was in step two because you do not add 1 and 48, you subtract. this would result in "no solution" since you can't find the square root of a negative number

<u>Algebra II</u>

  • Distance Formula: \displaystyle d = \sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2}

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Step 1: Define</u>

Point (11, 4) → x₁ = 11, y₁ = 4

Point (5, 8) → x₂ = 5, y₂ = 8

<u>Step 2: Find distance </u><em><u>d</u></em>

Simply plug in the 2 coordinates into the distance formula to find distance <em>d</em>

  1. Substitute in points [Distance Formula]:                                                       \displaystyle d = \sqrt{(5-11)^2+(8-4)^2}
  2. [√Radical] (Parenthesis) Subtract:                                                                 \displaystyle d = \sqrt{(-6)^2+(4)^2}
  3. [√Radical] Evaluate exponents:                                                                    \displaystyle d = \sqrt{36+16}
  4. [√Radical] Add:                                                                                               \displaystyle d = \sqrt{52}
  5. [√Radical] Simplify:                                                                                         \displaystyle d = 2\sqrt{13}

Which equation is in standard form?
kifflom [539]
I believe that the last one is true

because the linear equations are

y=ax+b

which means that the point of y-axis is on one side and the slope, point on x-axis and y-intercept are on the other side

good luck
