The trait of the romantic era that was brought by the story of "The devil and Tom walker" is  " The emphasis on individual choice" .

This is actually a short story written by Washington Irving  in the year of 1824 .

This story is about a pirate with the very great treasure which he intend to protect by dealing with a devil who is protecting it ever since he died and the story continues with entry of other characters.
