A) a + c = 940
B) 13a + 9c = 10,148
Multiplying equation A by -9

A) -9a -9c = -8,460 Then adding this to B
B) 13a + 9c = 10,148
4a = 1,688
adults = 422

A) 422 + c = 940
children = 518
