You need to plot them first.

Then count the total distance in between, which is 9 miles. If he goes 12 miles per hour, he will be there in .75 hours. Which is 45 minutes.

What is the equation of the line that passes through the points (–p, –q) and (p, q)?
Effectus [21]

slope (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

m = (q--q)(p--p)

m = 2q/2p

m=q/p

point slope form

y-y1=m(x-x1)

y-q =q/p(x-p)

distribute

y-q=q/p *x -q

add q to each side

y = q/p *x

Which is bigger 7/8 or 0.78
agasfer [191]
<span>7/8 = 7 * 1/8 and 1/8 = 1 : 8 = 0.125. After that: 7 * 0.125 = 0.875. Finally, 0.875 > 0.78. We can do it also by transforming 0.78 to fraction: 0.78 = 78/100 = 39/50 and then multiplying the numerator and the denominator by 4: 39/50 = 156 / 200 . Then we will also multiply 7/8 * 25/25 = 175/ 200. Obviously: 175/200 > 156/200. Answer: 7/8 is bigger than 0.78. </span>

Assume c and d function independently. for the system to function, either c or d must function.
almond37 [142]
For the "system" to function, we require that C\cup D occurs (i.e. the event that either C or D function properly). This occurs with probability

\mathbb P(C\cup D)=\mathbb P(C)+\mathbb P(D)-\mathbb P(C\cap D)

but since C and D are independent,

\mathbb P(C\cup D)=\mathbb P(C)+\mathbb P(D)-\mathbb P(C)\mathbb P(D)

We're given that \mathbb P(C^C)=0.08 and \mathbb P(D^C)=0.12, so

\mathbb P(C\cup D)=(1-0.08)+(1-0.12)-(1-0.08)(1-0.12)=0.9904

If \mathbb P(C^C)=\mathbb P(D^C)=p, then

\mathbb P(C\cup D)=(1-p)+(1-p)-(1-p)^2=1-p^2
