Mitosis is a type of cell division that occurs in all eukaryotic cells and ensures the formation of two daughter cells with identified nuclei. It is an important process for the growth and regeneration of multicellular organisms and for asexual reproduction of unicellular organisms.
Despite being a continuous process, mitosis can be divided into four distinct phases: prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase. This process begins after the interphase period, which comprises the time between two phases of cell division.
