English
1 answer:

Scout first notices a change in Atticus' behaviour towards Alexandra after both of them had spoken with each other and argued about the employment of Calpurnia. Atticus was becoming more stressed as the upcoming trial was approaching and how Alexandra's comments had finally got to him. Atticus was a man who was against prejudice and he was tired of Alexandra trying to have Calpurnia fired. Alexandra had tried to take over the family household since she had arrived from Finch's landing, Atticus was well aware of this and confronted Alexandra. All of these events play a part in driving Atticus to breaking point and show how he changes throughout the story and his fmaily begins to notice.

Please Help Me :)
Anna35 [415]

D: their

This makes more sense than his. There is more than one person being referred to in the sentence. the word solo is referring to Joe and Daune.

I tried putting his in the sentence and it just doesn't make sense to me. If the sentence was like the following: Joe was not nervous about___his __ solo in the concert then I think it would make more sense to use this word.

Hopefully this helps and good luck. :)

P.S. Don't you mean: Neither Joe nor Daune were nervous about __their __ solo in the concert? Were makes more sense than was.

What are some examples of synecdoche in The Great Gatsby?
Valentin [98]

What about Owl-Eyes who acts as the enhancement to the occular imagery in F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby"?

Having no real name, this character of synedoche acts as the eyes that perceive the truth about Gatsby.  For instance, when he is in the library at Gatsby's house during a party, he is surprised that the books are real and bound in real leather with actual pages; he has suspected that they, like Gatsby, would merely have the appearance of being genuine.  Also, in the last chapter, Owl Eyes is the only one of the party group to attend the funeral for Gatsby because, as he come "splashing" after Nick and Mr. Gatsby, he wants to meet the father and learn more about Jay Gatsby.  When he talks to Nick after the funeral, he remarks,

<span>'I couldn't get to the house.''Neither could anybody else.''Go on'...Why my God! they used to go there by the hundreds.'
</span>

Like the billboard that sits overlooking the Valley of Ashes, Owl Eyes sees and understands all.
