The British and the French signed a treaty in 1763 to put an end to the war between French and Indian in North America. The British, being the victors of the war took procession of all Canada and the present day mid-west, which include Wisconsin.
The British didn’t enjoy their seized empire for a long time because after the treaty was signed, Indian resistance moved to seize British new empire.
Pontiac, who was an Ottawa chief from Detroit, led the attack, which caught the attention of many tribes across the mid-west and Canada.
However, the moment peace was achieved, British took over Great lake fur trade, and although the ranks in fur trade were dominated by French Canadian but British traders began to appear as well after 1763. During this period, English and Scottish traders married Indian-woman and this actually contributed to the reason why great lake Indians bear English and Scottish last names till today.
Also, during the US war for independence, the Indians and metis community support the British.
On account of what happened before the British new empire, the American Indians helped the British to survived winter by teaching them how to grow corn and other varieties of crops.
