The correct answer is “Gregor was shocked when he heard his own voice answering, it could hardly be recognized as the voice he had had before”. The novella “The Metamorphosis” (1915) written by Franz Kafka narrates the story of Gregor Samsa, a salesman who wakes up one morning and finds himself transformed into a huge insect. The sentence from the story that most strongly shows the reader Gregor’s mood is the one present towards the end of the excerpt which narrates how terrified and frightened Gregor was when he discovered his voice was not the same as before due to his transformation (Gregor was shocked when he heard his own voice answering, it could hardly be recognized as the voice he had had before.). The rest of the options narrate different events since the moment Gregor discovered his transformation and they contribute to the atmosphere of the narration.

The readers will comprehend his feelings and thoughts since they are given the insights about him and how he sees the other characters. In order to relate better about Feld’s epiphany towards the end, his limited POV narration was used.
