If you are in the United States, this action would be an unconstitutional violation of your civil liberties since 1791, the year when the Constitution of the United States was amended for the first time to include First Amendment, that guarantes the individual freedom of speech and prohibits the government from violating that individual freedom.

Criticizing the government is a form of freedom of speech, and it is one of the differences between a constitutional republic like the United States, and a dictatorship like Hitler's Germany or modern-day North Korea.

The government does not have the right to arrest anyone for expressing criticisms or views against it, and in fact, as the government serves the people, if the majority of people are against it, it should be removed from office.

They also took after the Romans on the idea of a republic being comprised of people elected to represent them. These people are also meant to be changed out on a regular basis. And that the public was in control of who was calling the shots on their behalf.
