Erik Erikson has developed a conception that the development of our life goes through 8 different stages within the context in which we live. Development is described in eight stages from birth to death. In each of these stages there is a function that assumes a positive and a negative aspect in life. Though both aspects are necessary,  it is essential that the positive overlaps the negative. All stages contribute to personality formation and are therefore important even after going through them.
