An electronics store makes a profit of $33 for every portable DVD player sold and $88 for every DVD recorder sold. The manager’s

target is to make at least $264 a day on sales of the portable DVD players and DVD recorders. Write and graph an inequality that represents the number of both kinds of DVD players that can be sold to reach or beat the sales target. Let p represent the number of portable DVD players and r represent the number of DVD recorders.

Answer:

Inequality: 33p+88r > 264

Step-by-step explanation:

Let, x represents the number of portable DVD players and y represent the number of DVD recorders.

As per the statement: An electronics store makes a profit of $33 for every portable DVD player sold and $88 for every DVD recorder sold.

"Profit of $33 for every portable DVD player sold" means 33p

and

"Profit of $88 for every portable DVD recorder sold" means 88r

Also, it is given that the manager’s target is to make at least $264 a day on sales of the portable DVD players and DVD recorders.

⇒  33x+88y > 264                 ......[1]

The related equation for the given equation [1] is;

33x+88y =264                              .....[2]

Intercept for this equation is;

x-intercept :

Substitute y=0 in [2] to solve for x;

33x +88(0)= 264

33x = 264

Divide by 33 on both sides, we get;

x = 8

y-intercept

Substitute x = 0 in [2] to solve for y;

33(0)+88y = 264

88y = 264

Divide by 88 on both sides, we get;

y = 3

Graph of the inequality:

First plot 33x+88y =264 or  y =-\frac{3}{8}x+3 (as a dotted line because y> not includes equal to).

now, shade the area above (because y is greater than)

Here, p=x represent the number of portable DVD players and r=y represent the number of DVD recorders.

As, you can see the graph of the inequality 33p+88r > 264 as shown below in the attachment.

lilavasa [31]

Answer:

The y-intercept of points A and B is -2.

Step-by-step explanation:

Point A is the y-intercept. You can tell by looking at the x and seeing that it is 0. This means the point is the y-intercept.

Hope this helps!
