Public relation officers are professionals that are saddled with the responsibility of divulging good information and perception of the company or organization to the public. They help in creating and maintaining a healthy relationship between the company and its clients/general public.
However ethical decisions are usually taken which includes
1. Public interests- This is what majority of the public wants.
2. Employers self interest- This is how the employer wants his business run to maximize profit.
3.The standards of the public relations profession- These are the basic rules and guidelines of the profession which must be strictly followed.
The other factor is their personal values- As humans certain decisions are usually influenced by our personal values and interests.
Their oersonal values is of great important to the profession, because in taking ethical decision if you dont have your own value system of being honest, loyal, making fair judgement, being an expert, being a good advocate and adhering to the code of ethics, you will find it difficult to be a goodpublic relations officer. This factor is of great importance in the burden of making ethical decisions. Developing a personal values will go a long way.
