The changes I observed in the moth populations result from the best-hidden moths surviving and reproducing, passing on their colors to their offspring. Why? Because individuals NEVER evolve, populations do. The first choice incorrectly believes in Lamarck's theory of evolution in which he incorrectly believed that individual organisms in the population developed a trait that would help them survive (e.g. longer necks in giraffes).
This can affect the organisms living there because now, their environment is probably different than what they have been living in for a long time, so now they have to adapt to this new environment, and if they don't, the organisms will probably end up dying.
