Remember
x^{ \frac{m}{n} }= \sqrt[n]{x^m}

so
x^{ \frac{1}{2} }= \sqrt[2]{x^1} or √x

Fractional exponents are also called radicals or rational exponents. To get rid of this type of exponents, we remember the law of exponents when we multiply them. For instance,
<span>
x^1/2
</span><span>
x^1/2 ( x^1/2 ) = x^(1/2+1/2) = x^(1) = x
</span><span>
Therefore, x^1/2, when 2 times in a multiplication gives x and so x^1/2 is the square root of x.</span><span>
</span>

Please help with #12 im confused<br> that is the key but i dont get it
Svetllana [295]

Given Equation

\boxed{ \tt \: (8 \sqrt{3}  - 2 \sqrt{2} )(8 \sqrt{3}   + 2 \sqrt{2})}

Step by step expansion:

\dashrightarrow \sf \: (8 \sqrt{3}  - 2 \sqrt{2} )(8 \sqrt{3}   + 2 \sqrt{2})

\\  \\

\dashrightarrow \sf \: (8 \sqrt{3})^{2}  - (2 \sqrt{2}  {)}^{2}

Reason:

(a + b)(a - b) = a²- b²

\\  \\

\dashrightarrow \sf \: (8 {}^{2}  \times  { \sqrt{3} }^{2} )- (2 \sqrt{2}  {)}^{2}

\\  \\

\dashrightarrow \sf \: (64  \times 3 ) - (2 \sqrt{2}  {)}^{2}

\\  \\

\dashrightarrow \sf \: (64  \times 3 ) - (2 {}^{2} \times   \sqrt{2}  {}^{2}  {)}

\\  \\

\dashrightarrow \sf \: 192- 8

\\  \\

\dashrightarrow \sf \: 184

Which expression is equivalent to -1/4( -1/2x - 3/4) -1/2 ( 3/4x + 1/8)
solniwko [45]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

\frac{-1}{4}(\frac{-1}{2}x-\frac{3}{4})-\frac{1}{2}(\frac{3}{4}x+\frac{1}{8})\\\\=\frac{-1}{4}*\frac{-1}{2}x-\frac{-1}{4}*\frac{3}{4}-\frac{1}{2}*\frac{3}{4}x-\frac{1}{2}*\frac{1}{8}\\\\=\frac{1}{8}x+\frac{3}{16}-\frac{3}{8}x-\frac{1}{16}\\\\=\frac{1}{8}x-\frac{3}{8}x+\frac{3}{16}-\frac{1}{16}\\\\=\frac{(1-3)x}{8}+\frac{3-1}{16}\\\\=\frac{-2}{8}x+\frac{2}{16}\\\\=\frac{-1}{4}x+\frac{1}{4}
