This pope who reigned from November 1, 1503 to February 21, 1513. He founded the Swiss Guard to provide a constant corps of soldiers to protect the Pope. During his reign he's noted for many things, but primarily as a patron of the Arts. He laid the foundation stone of the new St. Peter's Basilica in 1506 and commissioned many works of art including the painting of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo.</span>
