The number=10x+y
we suggest this system of equations:
(10y+x)-(10x+y)=27
x+y=9                                ⇒x=9-y

Can solve this system of equations by susbstitution method.
(10y+(9-y)-(10(9-y)+y)=27
10y+9-y-(90-10y+y)=27
10y-y+10y-y=27-9+90
18y=108
y=108/18
y=6

x=9-y
x=9-6
x=3

The number=10x+y=10(3)+6=36

Answer: the number is 36.

to check:
63-36=27
6+3=9

A committee must be formed with 4 teachers and 5 students. If there are 11 teachers
Ivenika [448]

Answer:

11C4 × 11C5

\binom{11}{4}   \times  \binom{11}{5}  =  \frac{11 \times 10 \times 9 \times 8}{4 \times 3 \times 2 \times 1}   \times  \frac{11 \times 10 \times 9 \times 8 \times 7}{5 \times 4 \times 3 \times 2 \times 1}  = 330 \times 462 = 152460

the length of a rectangular garden is 3 m greater than the width. The area of the garden is 70m squared. find the dimensions of
Lerok [7]
A = l x w

so you know that the length is 3m longer than the width, so you could use a formula to represent that

w = l + 3

you then substitute the second equation into the first to solve for l

70 = l x (l +3)
70 = l^2 + 3l

you could then rearrange the formula and solve for l using the quadratic formula

0 = l^2 + 3l - 70

l = -3 +- (square root (3)^2 - 4(1)(70)) / 2(1)
l = -3 +- (square root 9 + 280) / 2
l = -3 +- (square root 289) / 2
l = -3 +- 17 / 2

then you solve for the two seperate roots

l = -3 + 17 /2
l = 14 / 2
l = 7

or

l = -3 - 17 / 2
l = -20 / 2
l = -10

since a length cannot be negative, this root is not viable. therefore l = 7

to solve for w you would use

w = l + 3
w = 7 + 3
w = 10

hope this helps! if you did not understand a step or concept please let me know!

What is the slope of the line that passes through the points (-3,1) and (7,-14)
Katyanochek1 [597]

Answer:

-  \frac{3}{2}

Step-by-step explanation:

\boxed{gradient =  \frac{y1 - y2}{x1 - x2} }

Using the formula above,

slope of line

=  \frac{1 - ( - 14)}{ - 3 - 7}  \\  =  \frac{1 + 14}{ - 10}  \\  =  \frac{15}{ - 10}  \\  =  -  \frac{3}{2}
