Two insecticides will be compared for their effectiveness in eliminating aphids on tomato plants. Forty tomato plants of the Big

Boy variety will be randomly allocated to two groups of twenty each. The first group of 20 plants will be sprayed with insecticide A and the other group of 20 plants with insecticide B. After two weeks, the number of aphids on each plant will be counted. A test will be performed to determine whether the mean number of aphids differs significantly for the two insecticides.
What procedure should she use to compare the mean number of aphids found on the two groups of plants?

Answer:

The t-test

Explanation:

The researcher should use a t-test to compare the two means and check if they are significantly different from each other.

In using the t-test, both null (H0) and alternate (H1) hypothesis are made such that:

 • H0: n1 = n2
 • H1: n1≠ n2

Thereafter, the value of t is calculated and compared to its critical value on the table. The formula for calculating the t goes thus:

t = \frac{Y_1 - Y_2}{\sqrt{\frac{S_1}{n_1} + \frac{S_2}{n_2} } }

where, Y1 = mean of population 1, Y2 = mean of population 2, S1 = variance of population 1, S2 = variance of population 2, n1 = number of individuals in population 1 and s2 = number of individuals in population 2.

At the end of the day, if the calculated t value is more than the critical value of t, the H0 is rejected and it shows that the two means are significantly different. Otherwise, the H0 is accepted and this shows that there is not significant difference between the mean of population 1 and that of 2.

How does DNA code for traits
trasher [3.6K]

The sequence of nucleotides in DNA genes determines the order of amino acids in a protein. This is the direct connection between your genes and your traits. The mechanism is a two-step process. First an enzyme transcribes a gene to an intermediate biochemical called ribonucleic acid, or RNA.

Where is the genetic material that determines the inherited traits of an organism located inside of a eukaryotic cell?.
vlabodo [156]

Answer:

Below:

Explanation:

The nucleus is particularly important among eukaryotic organelles because it is the location of a cell's DNA. Two other critical organelles are mitochondria and chloroplasts, which play important roles in energy conversion and are thought to have their evolutionary origins as simple single-celled organisms.

N the United States and Canada, bats use one of two strategies to survive winter: They either migrate south, or they hibernate.
Serjik [45]

Answer:

Hyphae

Explanation:

It is given that the bat affected by fungus, Geomyces destructans (Gd) consists of delicate, white filamentous mat on their muzzles which could be possibly the hyphae.

It is so because the hyphae is made of cells having tubular cell walls which more or less look like internal cross-walls having large pores to absorb nutrients from the surrounding environment (i.e bat’s body) and transport them to thallus. Hyphae are basically long thread like structures that spread throughout their food and release enzymes that break down the food

How zebra mussels affect the economy??
Xelga [282]
They can decrease property values. Sharp shells can litter beaches, cut feet and affect recreation and tourism. Overall, zebra mussels harm our environment, recreation and the economy of communities that depend upon healthy lakes and rivers.
