Robin Dunbar suggested that no more than 150 relationships could be held between humans and have them remain stable. He came to this number by finding a correlation between the brain size of primates and the average social group size. Should groups go higher than 150, they could only remain comfortable and stable if there were more restrictive rules, laws and more enforced ideas of what is normal and ok.
