A) 1 mile every 6 minutes

B) 1 mile every 7 minutes

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

42 minutes total is when they will catch up to each other.

A) will have run 7 miles in 42 minutes

B) will have run 6 miles in 42 minutes

Answer:

7 miles and 6 miles respectively.

Step-by-step explanation:

For me,

Distance = 0.5 miles,

Time = 3 minutes,

So, pace = \frac{Time}{Distance} = \frac{3}{0.5} = 6 minute per miles,

That is, I am running 1 mile in 6 minutes.

For my friend,

Distance = 2 miles,

Time = 14 minutes,

So, pace = \frac{14}{2} = 14 minutes per mile,

That is, my friend is running 1 mile in 7 minutes,

Thus, the time after we will meet = LCM(6,7) = 42 minutes,

Also, my speed = \frac{Distance}{Time}

=\frac{0.5}{3}

=\frac{1}{6} miles per minute,

Similarly my friend's speed = \frac{2}{14} = \frac{1}{7} miles per minute,

In 42 minutes,

Distance covered by me = \frac{1}{6}\times 42 = 7 miles,

Distance covered by my friend = \frac{1}{7}\times 42 = 6 miles.

|2x - 1|  =  | - x - 2|

Thus ;

2x - 1 =  - x - 2

Add both sides x

2x + x - 1 =  - x + x - 2

3x - 1 =  - 2

Add both sides 1

3x - 1 + 1 =  - 2 + 1

3x =   - 1

Divide both sides by 3

\frac{3x}{3}  =  \frac{ - 1}{3}  \\

x =  -  \frac{1}{3}  \\

<h2>Or </h2>

2x - 1 =  - ( - x - 2)

2x - 1 = x + 2

Subtract both sides x

2x  - x  - 1 = x - x + 2

x - 1 = 2

Add both sides 1

x - 1 + 1 = 2 + 1

x = 3

What are the solutions of this system of equations?
SpyIntel [72]

Answer:

Option C is correct.

Step-by-step explanation:

y = x^2-x-3     eq(1)

y = -3x + 5      eq(2)

We can solve by substituting the value of y in eq(2) in the eq(1)

-3x+5 = x^2-x-3

x^2-x+3x-3-5=0

x^2+2x-8=0

Now factorizing the above equation

x^2+4x-2x-8=0

x(x+4)-2(x+4)=0

(x-2)(x+4)=0

(x-2)=0 and (x+4)=0

x=2 and x=-4

Now finding the value of y by placing value of x in the above eq(2)

put x =2

y = -3x + 5

y = -3(2) + 5

y = -6+5

y = -1

Now, put x = -4

y = -3x + 5

y = -3(-4) + 5

y = 12+5

y =17

so, when x=2, y =-1 and x=-4 y=17

(2,-1) and (-4,17) is the solution.

So, Option C is correct.

Which graph represents a function? A coordinate plane shows 4 points with the following coordinates: (negative 3, 3), (negative
Jet001 [13]

The ordered pair that represents a function is:

⇒ (-3, 3), (-2, -2), (1, 1), (2, -2)

<u>What are Coordinates?</u>

A pair of numbers that describe the exact position of a point on a cartesian plane by using horizontal and vertical lines are called the coordinates.

The given points are;

(-3, 3), (-3, -3), (-1, 1), (1, 4)

(-3, 3), (-2, -2), (1, 1), (2, -2)

(-3, 3), (-3, -3), (1, -4), (1, 1)

(-4, 4), (-4, 1), (-2, 1), (2, 1)

Now, For an ordered pair to be a function, either of the following must be true:

Each x-value has exactly one corresponding y-value.

More than one x-values have the same corresponding y-values.

And, If any of the following conditions is true, then the ordered pair is not a function,

One x-value has multiple corresponding y-values.

More than one x-values have multiple corresponding y-values.

From the given options, only ordered pair  (-3, 3), (-2, -2), (1, 1), (2, -2) satisfies the condition to be a function.

Because none of its x-values have multiple corresponding y-values.

And, Other ordered pairs are either one-to-many or many-to-many.

So, The ordered pair that represents a function is:

⇒  (-3, 3), (-2, -2), (1, 1), (2, -2)

There are 8 members on a board of directors. if they must form a subcommittee of 6 members, how many different subcommittees are
Shtirlitz [24]
1. Given a group of n people. There are C(n, r) ways of forming groups of r out of n.

2. Where C(n, r)=\frac{n!}{r!(n-r)!}

3. For example, given {Andy, John, Julia}. We want to pick 2 people to give a gift: we can pick {(Andy, John), (Andy, Julia), (John, Julia)}, so there are 3 ways. So we can list and count.

4. Or we could do this with the formula C(3, 2)=\frac{3!}{2!(1)!}= \frac{3*2*1}{2*1}=3

5. C(8, 6)=\frac{8!}{2!6!}= \frac{8*7*6!}{2*6!}= \frac{8*7}{2}= 4*7=28

So there are C(8,6)=28 ways of chosing 6 out of 8 people to form the subcommittees. <span />
