Though the British army won the battle, the Continental Army under the leadership of General George Washington successfully captured and fortified Dorchester Heights and force the British to bequeath Boston and the harbor.

The heavy damages caused by the British in the Battle strengthened the confidence of Americans and concluded that the relatively unskilled colonists could absolutely fight on par with the powerful redcoats of the British troops.
