Answer:

1. Two friends Max and Mary are standing at the same spot in a garden. Max takes 5 steps backwards and then again 3 more steps backward. So, what is the current position of Max with respect to the spot where Mary is standing?

Solving this, we know that if the initial spot is assumed to be zero, then first Max took 5 steps backwards that means -5 and then again 3 steps that gives -3.

So, we get total steps backwards as (-5)+(-3)=-8

Hence, Max is 8 steps backwards with respect to the spot where Mary is standing.

2. A basketball team played two games. In the first game the team lost 6 points and in the second game they lost another 6 points. What is the change in the score of the team after these two games?

We will solve this like (-6)+(-6)=-12

John owes 15 dollars to Bill, then another 2 dollars to Joey. How much money does John have?

Since John has 0 dollars to give, he has (-15)+(-2) =-17 dollars (as 15+2=17, so the same can be applied negatively) as the first 17 dollars he gets has to be given to Bill and Joey
