Answer:

The answer to the question: Why is widespread unemployment considered a public issue, would be: that it shows the inefficiency of public policies and it affects all the aspects of an economy, and not just on an individual basis.

Explanation:

The lack of employment opportunities are a matter of public issue and interest because it reflects on all aspects of a country´s economy. Also, it is a thermometer of how well a country is developing economically, and how the government is facing any issues to counteract the lack of chances. Without employment opportunities, it is not just one person who gets affected, but all members of society, and without employment there is also a fall in other aspects of a nations´ life, that continues growing like a snowball. This is why it is a matter of public interest and issue.

Answer:the decreased pressure on the food supply reduces starvation and misery or the decrease demand on limited resources reduces starvation and poverty.

Explanation:

The natural decrease of population that occurs when there are natural disasters according to Malthus is a great advantage in reducing a demand that an ever increasing population puts on limited resources.

Malthus calls this a positive check because he believes we need some sort of intervention if we don't want to face a situation whereby we will end up outstripping the available resources or face a situation where the available resources can't meet our needs or can't cover the available number of population.
