The French and Indian War was caused in 1754 over disputed claims by England and France to the Ohio River Valley. The French built forts there to protect their land. The British sent George Washington (who was 22 years old) to force the French to leave. Because of his poor handling of the situation, he is responsible for starting the war. In Albany, NY, Benjamin Franklin proposed a plan called the "Albany Plan of Union." However, it wasn't put in to action because the colonists thought their loss of power was too much.
