Therefore, 5^0=1. Next, for 2^1, anything to the power of 1 means it's that number, so 2^1=2. Note that for 2^3 (and for most exponents), however, it's 2 multiplied by itself 3 times, or 2*2*2=8. Since 5^0=1 and 2^1=2, 5^0*2^1=1*2=2
