The function y=−16x2+v0x models Lindy's height in feet above a trampoline x seconds after she jumps straight up. In the equation

of the function, v0 is her initial velocity in feet per second. Lindy lands back on the trampoline 1 second after she jumps.

Answer:

The initial velocity of Lindy was 16 ft/s

Step-by-step explanation:

Given: y=-16x^2+v_0x

It is function models of Lindy's Height in feet above a trampoline x seconds after she jumps straight up.

In the equation of the function

v_0 is initial velocity in feet per second.

We need to find the initial speed of Lindy

If She lands back on the trampoline after 1 seconds.

It means y must be zero because she lands back on trampoline.

At x=1, y must be 0

0=-16(1)^2 + v_0(1)

v_0=16

Hence, The initial velocity of Lindy was 16 ft/s

Ok  so when she lands  her height is 0  and x = 1 second so we can write

-16x^2 v0x  = 0
plug in x = 1

-16(1)^2 + v0 = 0
v0 = 16*1 = 16

so initial velocity = 16 ft/second

Water weighs 62.4 pounds per cubic foot. How much does the water in a tank that measures 7 ft × 4 ft × 9 in, weigh?
andriy [413]

Answer:

  • <u>1,310 lb</u>

Explanation:

<u>1) Calculate the volume of the water in the tank.</u>

  • Area of the base of the tank: B = 7 ft × 4 ft = 28 ft²
  • Height of the tank: H = 9 in = 9 in × 1 ft / 12 in = 0.75 ft
  • Volume of the tank: V = area of the base × height = B × H = 28 ft² × 0.75 ft = 21 ft³.

<u>2) Calculate the weight of 21 ft³ of water.</u>

Since this is not a chemistry question but a math question, I will not use the fomula of density but set a proportion with one unknown:

  • 62.4 lb / 1 ft³ = x / 21 ft³

Solve for x:

  • x = 21 ft³ × 64 lb / ft³ = 1,310.4 lb.

So, rounding to the next integer, the water in the tank weighs 1,310 pounds, when it is full.
