HELP THIS IS DUE IN 5 MINUETS!!!!!!!!!! YOU DON'T HAVE TO EXPLAIN THE ANSWER Since it's Wednesday, Buy for Less gives a 5% disco

unt for purchases. The items in Rhonda's cart total $53.75. She needs to know the cost of the items with the discount. So, she multiplies 5% times $53.75 and subtracts the amount from $53.75. Which expression would give Rhonda the same result in one step?

What are the solutions to the equation?
olga2289 [7]

Answer:

x = −10 and x = 4

Step-by-step explanation:

x2 + 6x = 40

Subtract 40 from each side

x^2 + 6x -40 =0

Factor,  what 2 numbers multiply to -40 and add to 6

10 * -4 = -40    10+-4 = 6

(x+10) (x-4) = 0

Using the zero product property

x+10 =0     x-4=0

x=-10    x=4

Is there a way to quickly find a function if you have a handful of ordered pairs?
Scilla [17]
Yeah. You basically have to look at every x value and see if for every x value, is there ONLY one y-value. So in your example, it is a function because every x value has only one y value. Let’s say you had (1,3) and (1,5). That would not be a function because the x value of 1 has TWO y values (3 and 5), therefore it is not a function.

That’s how you can easily spot if something is a function by just looking at a handful of ordered pairs. I hope this makes sense.
