Answer:

The percent isotopic abundance of C- 12 is 98.93 %

The percent isotopic abundance of C- 13 is 1.07 %

Explanation:

we know there are two naturally occurring isotopes of carbon, C-12 (12u) and C-13 (13.003355)

First of all we will set the fraction for both isotopes

X for the isotopes having mass 13.003355

1-x for isotopes having mass 12

The average atomic mass of carbon is 12.0107

we will use the following equation,

13.003355x + 12 (1-x) = 12.0107

13.003355x + 12 - 12x = 12.0107

13.003355x- 12x = 12.0107 -12

1.003355x = 0.0107

x= 0.0107/1.003355

x= 0.0107

0.0107 × 100 = 1.07 %

1.07 % is abundance of C-13 because we solve the fraction x.

now we will calculate the abundance of C-12.

(1-x)

1-0.0107 =0.9893

0.9893 × 100= 98.93 %

98.93 % for C-12.

A 151.5-g sample of a metal at 75.0°C is added to 151.5 g at 15.1°C. The temperature of the water rises to 18.7°C. Calculate the
Kryger [21]

Answer:

The specific heat capacity of the metal is 0.268 J/g°C

Explanation:

Step 1: Data given

Mass of the metal = 151.5 grams

The temperature of the metal = 75.0 °C

Temperature of water = 15.1 °C

The temperature of the water rises to 18.7°C.

The specific heat capacity of water is 4.18 J/°C*g

Step 2: Calculate the specific heat capacity of the metal

heat lost = heat gained

Q = m*c*ΔT

Qmetal = - Qwater

m(metal) * c(metal) * ΔT(metal) = m(water) * c(water) * ΔT(water)

⇒ mass of the metal = 151.5 grams

⇒ c(metal) = TO BE DETERMINED

⇒ΔT( metal) = T2 - T1 = 18.7 °C - 75.0 °C = -56.3 °C

⇒ mass of the water = 151.5 grams

⇒ c(water) = 4.184 J/g°C

⇒ ΔT(water) = 18.7° - 15.1 = 3.6 °C

151.5g * c(metal) * -56.3°C = 151.5g * 4.184 J/g°C * 3.6 °C

c(metal) = 0.268 J/g°C

The specific heat capacity of the metal is 0.268 J/g°C

A student sets up the following equation to convert a measurement.
dybincka [34]

Answer:

\frac{1 m}{100 cm}

Explanation:

The final answer has a different set of units. In particular, meters (m) changes to centimeters (cm). To make this change, you need to multiply the first value by proportions.

When writing these proportions, it is important that they are arranged in a way that allows for the cancellation of units. For instance, since m is located in the denominator, it must be located in the numerator of the conversion.

Proportion:

1 m = 100 cm

The full expression:

-1.7*10^5\frac{V}{m}  ·  \frac{1 m}{100 cm}  =  ? \frac{V}{cm}

                 ^

As you can see, the old unit (m) cancels out and you are left with cm in the denominator.

When cooking frozen cheese ravioli, you should use three quarts of water instead of one so that the raviolis have room to move around in the boiling water and so that while they are moving around, they will not stick to each other or the pan.
