It began in 1972 on Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York. It was inspired by a fake story fabricated by Mortimer Matz that in 1916 four immigrants has such a competition to prove who is most partiotic. Matz and others have participated in organizing the contest and it slowly depeveloped into the competition we know today.
