During 1832-1833, the US faced a political crisis. A big dispute emerged between the US government and the South Carolina federal government. The reason for the dispute were the tariffs imposed by the US government, with the southern states, and especially South Carolina being badly affected by them. South Carolina was losing a lot of money because of the tariffs and it was claiming that they are unconstitutional and damaging to the economy. The two sides stood their ground, and in the end the situation was nullified, with both sides coming out of it somewhat pleased. The tariffs remained in place which was seen as a success by the US government, but the tariffs were significantly lowered, which was seen as a success by South Carolina.
