Assume that different groups of couples use the XSORT method of gender selection and each couple gives birth to one baby. The XS
olganol [36]

Answer:

Mean and Standard deviation for the numbers of girls in groups of 36 births are 18 and 3 respectively.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that he X SORT method is designed to increase the likelihood that a baby will be a girl, but assume that the method has no effect, so the probability of a girl is 0.5.

Now consider a group consisting of 36 couples.

The above situation can be represented through binomial distribution;

P(X=r)=\binom{n}{r} \times p^{r} \times (1-p)^{n-r} ;x=0,1,2,3,.....

where, n = number of trials (samples) taken = 36 couples

            r = number of success

            p = probability of success which in our question is probability

                   of a girl, i.e.; p = 0.5

<em><u>Let X = Numbers of girls in groups of 36 births </u></em>

So, X ~ Binom(n = 36, p = 0.5)

Now, mean for the numbers of girls in groups of 36 births is given by;

         <u>Mean</u>, E(X) = n \times p = 36 \times 0.5 = 18

Also, standard deviation for the numbers of girls in groups of 36 births is given by;

        <u>Standard deviation</u>, S.D.(X) =  \sqrt{n\times p\times (1-p)}

                                                      =  \sqrt{36\times 0.5\times (1-0.5)}

                                                      =  3

-2/7 - (-4/3) -1/3 what is the answer
seraphim [82]
You have to first make like terms

-\frac{2}{7} -(-  \frac{4}{3})-  \frac{1}{3} &#10;
**you want the denominator to be 21

\frac{-6+28-7}{21} =  \frac{15}{21}= \frac{5}{7}

Why do whole numbers raised to an exponent get bigger while fractions raised to an exponent get smaller
Brilliant_brown [7]

Answer:

when you multiply a whole number by itself it will obviously get bigger.

4 to the 2nd power equals 16 because 4x4 = 16

if you were to multiply a smaller number though, it wouldn't get as big.

Each number you put to the same exponent will not get bigger at the same rate since each number isnt being multiplied by the same thing.

ex. 4 and 6 are raised to the second power both dont get multiplied by the same number 4 is multiplied by 4, and 6 by 6, therefore the bigger the number the bigger it grows.

Fractions get smaller for this reason when you have the fraction 2/3 raised to the second, both numbers must be raised. 2 to the second equals 4 while 3 to the second is 9.

1/2 to the second would then equal 1/4 since 1 to the second equals 1 and 2 to the second equals 4.
