Answer: D) Latent fingerprint technology relies on the chemical reaction between the secretions from our bodies and the chemicals that crime scene investigators use to bring about these chemicals.

Explanation:

The latent fingerprint is a pattern of friction ridge skin over the surface of the object or any other surface. This leads to the deposition of the oils and other materials from the hands to the surface. The friction ridge skin is not usually visible with the naked eye instead requires special techniques to observe the prints on the surface. The special techniques involves the dusting of fingerprint powder, use of alternative, ultraviolet light source and powder with tape lifting.

The typical secretions like salts, fats and oil which are the main components of the sweat reacts with the chemicals used in the techniques to observe the fingerprints on the surface. The techniques help in locating prints and collecting them from the scene of crime that can be further used for criminal investigation.

What are the benefits of having several state permits a practice that is generally banned throughout the United States?
iragen [17]
This is when states become a “laboratories for Democracy”. This means that while federal law may say one thing about a certain issue/policy, there is sometimes overlap in jurisdiction that allow states to go against the Federal Government. A benefit of states being laboratories for Democracy is that they are able to implement policies that they feel is best for citizens of their respected state. A quality example of this would be the legality of marijuana. While marijuana is still illegal at the federal level, many states (colorado, california, washington, etc) have decided that the consumption of marijuana is legal for recreational use, despite federal law that prohibits it.

5.) What is the current legal status of sentencing guidelines?
HACTEHA [7]

Answer:On January 12, 2005, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Sixth Amendment right to a trial by jury requires that federal sentencing guidelines be advisory, rather than mandatory. 1 In doing so, the Court struck down a provision in law that made the federal sentencing guidelines mandatory 2 as well as a provision that permitted appellate review of departures from the guidelines. 3 In essence, the Court's ruling gives federal judges discretion in sentencing offenders by not requiring them to adhere to the guidelines; rather, the guidelines can be used by judges on an advisory basis. 4 As a result of the ruling, judges now have discretion in sentencing defendants unless the offense carries a mandatory sentence (as specified in law).
