Wei W, Zhao H, Wang A, et al. A clinical study on the short-term effect of berberine in comparison to metformin on the metabolic
marshall27 [118]

A group of Chinese women with PCOS who were receiving treatment saw several metabolic and hormonal imbalances improve after taking BBR. The primary consequences may be connected to the modifications in body composition in obesity and dyslipidemia. For the evaluation of the possible beneficial metabolic effects of BBR in women with PCOS, additional controlled trials are required.

PCOS:

  • Objective: Insulin resistance is a common metabolic and reproductive condition called polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) (IR). A quinoline derivative alkaloid known as berberine (BBR) has been utilized as an insulin sensitizer and is isolated from Chinese medicinal herbs. There may be a therapeutic benefit for PCOS from BBR. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of BBR and metformin (MET) on the metabolic characteristics of PCOS-affected women.
  • Design and methods: Ninety nine PCOS and IR patients were randomly assigned to one of three therapy groups: BBR+ compound cyproterone acetate (CPA;n=31), MET+CPA(n=30), and placebo+ CPA (n=28) for 3months. Before and after the treatment period, metabolic and hormonal measures as well as the clinical characteristics of the women were evaluated.
  • Results: Reduced waist circumference, waist-to-hip ratio (WHR;P<0.01), total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLC; P<0.05), as well as increased levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDLC) and sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG; P<0.05) were all observed following treatment with BBR as compared to MET. Similarly, BBR treatment decreased WHR, fasting plasma glucose, fasting insulin, homeostasis model evaluation for IR, area under the insulin curve, TC, LDLC, and TG (P<0.05), while increasing HDLC and SHBG (P<0.01) as compared to placebo.

Peripheral resistance depends on all of the following factors except __________.
pantera1 [17]

Options for the question have not been given. They are as follows:

blood vessel length

blood viscosity

blood vessel diameter

blood colloid osmotic pressure

Answer:

blood colloid osmotic pressure

Explanation:

  • Peripheral resistance is the resistance to blood flow by blood vessels.
  • It is directly proportional to blood vessel length as more the distance to travel, more will be the resistance.
  • It is also directly proportional to blood viscosity as more energy is required to push viscous material.
  • It is indirectly proportional to blood vessel diameter. More the diameter of the vessel, easier it is for the blood to pass.
  • However, it does not depend on blood colloid osmotic pressure. Colloid osmotic pressure is created by the protein components of blood and they do not have any direct impact on blood flow.

svet-max [94.6K]

Answer:

D. unnatural scream

Explanation:

The Bigfoot is a an animal around there's lot of debate, as there are thousands of sightings, but not conclusive proof that it actually exists, thus it falls into the category of mythological creatures for the time being. This creature has been described by thousands of people that claim to have seen it or hear it, and the descriptions are pretty much the same, very tall, hominid-like, bipedal, dark fur, very quick, and terrifying. Something else that is a specific feature of the creature is the sounds its make, as everyone has said that it produces incredibly powerful unnatural sounding scream. People have said that they have frozen from fear after hearing those sounds, and that whenever that sound occurs all other animals run away frightened in the opposite direction.
