A rectangular yard has area 96 square feet .if the width of the yard is 4 feet less than the length, what is the perimeter,in feet, of the yard

The basic formula for the perimeter of a rectangle is: P = 2 x (l + w). We know that the area is 96 square feet and the width is 4 feet less then the height.  

Since the width is 4 feet less than the length that means 4 + 4 = l 
4 + 4 = 8. 8 is the length. 

Now we have 

w = 4 
l = 8 

Solve 

P = 2 x (l + w) 
P = 2 x (8 + 4) 
P = 2 x (16 + 8) 
P = 24
