From the given diagram we can see that, on an average, as the variable x increases, the variable y decreases.

We also know that Negative correlation is a relationship between two variables in which one variable increases as the other decreases, and vice versa.

Thus, from the above two paragraphs it is clear that the graph which shows the cost per day of electricity over a seven-day period, presents, on an average, a Negative Correlation the dependent and the independent variables.

Match each expression to its equivalent standard form.
Aleksandr [31]

Let's expand the products they are all in the form

(a+b)(a-b)=a^2-b^2

For the first one we have a=x and b=2i:

(x+2i)(x-2i)=x^2-(2i)^2=x^2+4

For the second one we have a=x-2 and b=2i:

(x-2+2i)(x-2-2i)=(x-2)^2-(2i)^2 = x^2-4x+4+4=x^2-4x+8

For the third one we have a=x+1 and b=i:

(x+1+i)(x+1-i)=(x+1)^2-i^2=x^2+2x+1+1=x^2+2x+2

a manufacturer has determined that if his company sells x items per day then their profit is given by P=-x^2+ 700 x-10000 euros.
Radda [10]

Answer:

15

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the minimum amount of items, x, that need to be sold for the manufacturer to make a profit, we can use the quadratic formula

x = \frac{-b+\sqrt{b^{2}-4ac } }{2a}; x=  \frac{-b-\sqrt{b^{2}-4ac } }{2a}

x= \frac{-700+\sqrt{700^{2}-4(a)(-10000) } }{2(1)}; x= \frac{-700-\sqrt{700^{2}-4(a)(-10000) } }{2(1)}

x= \frac{-700+\sqrt{530000} }{2}; x= \frac{-700-\sqrt{530000} }{2}

x=\frac{-700+100\sqrt{53} }{2}; x=\frac{-700-100\sqrt{53} }{2};

x=-350 + 50\sqrt53 = 14.005; x = -350 - 50\sqrt53 = -714.005

In context of the problem, we can only rely on the positive value, as the negative value would lead to a loss of profit.

(-714.005)^2+700(-714.005)-10000=-0.360

Furthermore, we must round to the nearest whole number, as you cannot make part of an item.

Lastly, if you were to plug in 14 into the equation for Profit, you would still have a negative number (i.e. a negative profit), thus requiring the manufacturer to make no less than 15 items to make a profit:

(14)^2+700(14)-10000=-4\\\\(15)^2+700(15)-10000=725

Adding/Subtracting rational expressions

 6/(x-1)-5x/4
subtracting the above we put the fraction under the same denominator:
 6/(x-1)-5x/4
multiplying the denominators we get:
4(x-1)
thus subtracting we get:
6/(x-1)-5x/4
=(4*6-5x(x-1))/[4(x-1)]
=[24-5x^2+5x]/(4x-4)
Answer:
(-5x^2+5x+24)/(4x-4)

9]
3/(x+7)+4/(x-8)
the common denominator is:
(x+7)*(x-8)=(x+7)(x-8)
thus adding the fractions we put them under the same denominator as follows:
[3(x-8)+4(x+7)]/[(x+7)(x-8)]
=[3x-24+4x+28]/[(x+7)(x-8)]
=(7x+4)/[(x+7)(x-8)]
