Read these two scenarios. Scenario 1 It has been two years since Erik retired from his job. He is thoroughly enjoying retirement

. After more than 20 years of education—from kindergarten through graduate school, which the government paid for—and 45 years of working, he is finally enjoying free time. He finally had his knee surgery, which the government paid for. However, he had to wait a few months for the doctor to be available. This surgery was important for him, because he is looking forward to skiing this winter. He hopes his pension check from the government will enable him to spend an entire week in the mountains. Scenario 2 Sylvia is looking forward to her retirement. When she was 16 years old, she started working part time to put herself through college and graduate school because her government grants covered only a small amount of her tuition. Her work ethic paid off. After working for a software company for 15 years, she started her own firm. Eventually, her idea took off and she earned a large sum of money. Last spring, she broke her leg while hiking. The next day, she had a surgery that enabled her to attend an important family gathering a few weeks later. Her large income allowed her to pay the hospital bill. Her pension check will be a nice, but not necessary, addition to her large savings. Which scenario sounds better to you? Justify your response.

sylvia's scenario sounds better only because everything's is certain and so far she definitely got the better end, but unfortunately for erik's scenarios it stated that he had to get everything slowly and gradually.

The second scenario sounds better. When Sylvia retires, she is ensured that she will not be entirely dependent on the government’s pension check because she was able to successfully start and run her own business.

I would say answer is B because rather than receiving a broad education, you enroll in a course of study and take very specific classes to prepare you for a particular job.

The algorithm below simulates rolling a regular 6-sided die twice. Consider the goal of determining if the sum of the values of
FrozenT [24]

Algorithms are used to simulate real programs.

The true conditions of the algorithm are:

 • (a) If the value found in step 6 is 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 or 60 then the sum is even
 • (b) If the last digit of the value found in step 6 is 5, then the sum is odd

First, we analyze the algorithm.

Assume the outcomes of the two rolls are x and y

Step 4: Calculate sum

Sum = x + y

Step 5: Multiply Sum by 10

Result = Sum \times 10

Step 6: Divide by 2

Result = Sum \times 10 \div 2

Result = Sum \times 5

This means that, the algorithm simply multiplies the sum of the rolls by 5

Option (a): If step 6 is 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 or 60, then sum is even

Make Sum the subject in Result = Sum \times 5

Sum = \frac{Result}{5}

When 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 are divided by 5, the result is:

Sum = 2, 4,6,8,10, 12

All the above numbers are even number.

This means that, the sum is an even number.

Hence, (a) is true

Option (b): If the last digit of step 6 is 5, then the sum is Odd.

The possible sum of two rolls of dice, where the last digit ends in 5 are:

5, 15, 25, 35

When each of these are divided by 5, the result is:

Sum = 1,3,5,7

It is not possible to have a sum of 1 for two rolls

So, we have:

Sum = 3,5,7

All the above numbers are odd.

This means that, the sum is an odd number.

Hence, (b) is true

So, we can conclude that the true conditions are:

(a) and (b)
