The least amount of material will be required when the box is half a cube, so its surface area is half that of a cube with volume 64 in³. Such a cube has sides that are 4 in squares, so has an area of 4²×6 = 96 in². Half that is 48 in².

The least amount of material required for an open square box of volume 32 in³ is 48 in².

_____

Let x represent the edge length of the square base. Then the height of the box is 32/x², and its surface area is

... A = x² + 4x(32/x²) = x² +128/x

The derivative of this is

... dA/dx = 2x -128/x²

and it will be 0 where the area is a minimum:

... 0 = 2x -128/x²

... 64 = x³ . . . . . multiply by x²/2 and add 64. Note this is the answer we had above.

... x = ∛64 = 4, and the area is

... A = 4² + 128/4 = 16 + 32 = 48 . . . . in²

Latonya bought flowers for her mother. She spent $45. Each tulip was $1 and each rose was $2. She bought 3 more tulips than rose
Yuliya22 [10]
Lets start from scratch.
45 is the number of money she spent that means that right side of = sign is 45
let m represents number of roses.
we can write:

t*$1+ m*$2 = $45

Since she bought 3 more tulips than roses that means that m = t - 3

when we express m we get:

t + 2*(t-3) = 45

Solve the system by substitution.
y = -2
y =
5x + 40
Colt1911 [192]

Answer:

x = 8.4

y = -2

Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1: Sub y=-2 into y=5x + 40

-2 = 5x + 40

Step 2: Solve for 'x'

-2 = 5x +40

-42 = 5x

x = 42/5

x = 8.4

Step 3: Solve for 'y'

y is given in the question, y=-2

In which quadrant will the image FGH lie after a counterclockwise rotation of 1980 degrees? Explain how you made your prediction
Nata [24]

A 360 degrees counter-clockwise rotation will bring the triangle at the same place.

So, divide 1980 by 360 and find the remainder.

On dividing, we can find that

1980 = 5(360) + 180

A 1800 degrees rotation will rotate the triangle 5 times and will bring it in the same place.

A further 180 degrees rotation will rotate the triangle to two quadrants back and will bring it in the first quadrant.
