I have a question. In my class we are doing a new unit and I don't understand it. We are solving systems of equations by graphin

g. I don't understand how to graph each point for both equations and how they intersect each other.
there is an example:
{ x+y=8
x-y=4

X + y = 8
<u>x - y = 4</u>
    <u>2x</u> = <u>12</u>
     2      2
      x = 6
6 + y = 8<u>
-6       -6</u>
     y = 2
(x, y) = (6, 2)

You'd do x+x, y+(-y), and 8+4. You'll get 2x+0=12.
X=6 and y=2

A card is drawn from a standard deck and a letter is chosen from the word incredible. What is the probability of drawing a king
Kamila [148]
There is a 4/52 chance of getting a king, because there are 52 cards in a deck, and 4 kings in each. And there is a 2/10 (1/5) chance of getting an i, because there are 2 i's in the word "incredible", and 10 letters (so simplifying that, you would get 1/5).

Ted has a shelf that is 75/4 inches wide.How many books can Ted arrange on the shelf if each book is 5/4 inches thick?
Mumz [18]
Hello!

You have to divide \frac{75}{4} by \frac{5}{4}

\frac{75}{4} ÷ \frac{5}{4} = 15

Ted can arrange <u>15 books</u>

A line l2 is perpendicular to the line x + 2y – 5 = 0 without computing the gradient of this
Stells [14]

Answer:

y=2x-2

Step-by-step explanation:

first, let's put the line into y=mx+b form (slope-intercept form), where m is the slope (or gradient) and b is the y intercept

add 5 to both sides

x+2y=5

subtract x from both sides

2y=-x+5

divide by 2

y=-1/2x+5/2

perpendicular lines have slopes (gradients) that are negative (one is positive, another one is negative) and reciprocal (they are essentially the same number, just "flipped")

to find the slope of I2:

since -1/2 is negative, that means the slope of I2 will be 2 (2/1 is the reciprocal of 1/2 (positive version of -1/2))

so here's our equation so far:

y=2x+b

now we need to find b

because line will pass through (3,4), we can use it to solve for b

substitute 4 as y and 3 as x

4=2(3)+b

multiply

4=6+b

-2=b

therefore the equation is y=2x-2

hope this helps!!
