It was the assassination of the Austrian Archduke Francis Ferdinand and his wife by Black Hand member Gavrilo Princip that happened on June 28, 1914.  Austrian blamed the Serbs and insisted on having Austrian officials try the case in Serb courts.  Later on it led to the outbreak of World War I.
