Kaminaljuyu is a site of the Pre-Columbian era, particularly of the Maya civilization. Michael Coe regards this site as one of the most inclusive archaeological sites in America. When excavated this site involved some 200 platforms and pyramidal hillocks. Historians such as Samuel K. Lothrop and Alfred Maudslay have documented sculpture and produced maps of the entire section.
The drought and erosion of the Dust Bowl affected 100,000,000 acres (400,000 km2) that centered on the panhandles of Texas and Oklahoma and touched adjacent sections of New Mexico, Colorado, and Kansas.
