They believed that it would divide the nation causing different groups or parties to fight for their own interest and not for the best interest of the nation. As time went own different leaders viewed the constitution in different ways with Hamilton believing the nation should take a broad view of the constitution with the national government having more power. On the other hand, Jefferson was in favor of more of a narrow view with the power being in the hands of the people and the individual states.
