Empirical Formula for given compound Ba1C2N2.

Explanation:

Step 1; convert the mass of each element into their molar values by dividing available mass by molar masses.

Molar masses of required elements are as follows; Ba- 137.327, C- 12, N- 14.

Step 2; Divide all the values by the smallest mole value. For given compound after dividing the masses by molar masses we get 0.0690, 0.1383, 0.1378 for elements Ba, C, N respectively. Divide all three values with the least value which is 0.0690 and note these values.

Step 3; Convert all the numbers available into whole numbers by multiplying with suitable values. i.e. 3 if values are 0.33, 2 if values are 0.5 etc.

Step 4; Assign these values to corresponding elements and you will get the above empirical formula.

1) Compounds:

a) Chemically combined.

b) Components change properties.

c) Fixed proportions.

2) Mixtures:

a) Physically combined.

b) Components retain properties.

c) Variable proportions.

3) Both:

a) Made of elements.

b) 2 or more components.

A compound is a pure substance because its molecule cannot be broken down into simpler particles by physical means. For example water (H₂O) is a chemical compound made of two elements (hydrogen and oxygen).

In chemical change new substances are formed, the atoms are rearranged and the reaction is followed by an energy change.

There are no chemical bonds between substances in the mixture.,For example, mixture is solution of water and alcohol.

Gaseous ammonia chemically reacts with oxygen o2 gas to produce nitrogen monoxide gas and water vapor. Calculate the moles of ni
Sergio [31]

Answer: 0.050 moles of nitrogen monoxide are produced by 0.050 moles of ammonia.

Explanation:

According to the law of conservation of mass, mass can neither be created nor be destroyed. Thus the mass of products has to be equal to the mass of reactants. The number of atoms of each element has to be same on reactant and product side. Thus chemical equations are balanced.

The balanced chemical reaction is:

4NH_3(g)+5O_2(g)\rightarrow 4NO(g)+5H_2O(g)

According to stoichiometry:

4 moles of ammonia produce = 4 moles of nitrogen monoxide

Thus 0.050 moles of ammonia produce =\frac{4}{4}\times 0.050=0.050 moles of nitrogen monoxide

postnew [5]

Answer:

Yes, the formed product is calcium nitride, Ca_3N_2.

Explanation:

Hello,

In this case, the answer is yes, since nitrogen in gaseous state is able to react with calcium in solid state to form calcium nitride as shown below:

N_2+Ca\rightarrow Ca_3N_2

This is possible since calcium losses two electrons and nitrogen gains three electrons to remain positively and negatively charged respectively, forming the aforementioned ionic compound.

Best regards.
