A story told in chronological order can build suspense by making each part more and more suspenseful.

Example.
1- a girl is walking.
2- she feels a presence behind her
3- she turns around to see nobody behind her.
4- she continues walking and looking behind her
5- suddenly someone behind her cover her eyes ( climax)
6- she turns around and notices it's her little sister
