Because cholesterol is only minimally soluble in water (dissolves into the water at small concentrations) it needs to be transported as part of the complex with proteins-lipoproteins. Thus, lipoproteins bound by specific receptors on cell membranes. Lipoproteins, particles that transport cholesterol through the blood, contain lipid-soluble part (located inside the particle) and amphipathic or water-soluble part (one the surface of the particle). There are five types of lipoproteins: chylomicrons, very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), intermediate-density lipoprotein (IDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and high-density lipoprotein (HDL). Receptors for the cholesterol (lipoprotein) are located on the surface of a plasma membrane and after the binding of lipoprotein, coated endocytic vesicles are formed from the surface. Those vesicles carry lipoprotein into the cell together with the receptor (internalization). After internalization, the receptors dissociate and recycle to the cell surface.

During recombination ________________________.
Sonbull [250]

Answer:

2)chiasmata hold chromosomes together.

Explanation:

Chiasma (pl. Chiasmata): it is the point of contact, the physical union between two non-sister chromatids that belong to homologous chromosomes. In a given chiasma, an exchange of genetic material can occur between both chromatids.

1) is FALSE becasue recombination occurs between chromatids of homologous chromosomes, NOT between sister chromatids.

3) is FALSE because more than one recombination event can occur in a given pair of homologous chromosomes.

4) is FALSE becasue synaptonemal complex keeps homologous chromosomes together, NOT sister chromatids. Additionally, recombination occurs in prophase 1, long before anaphase 2.

Which is required for the light-dependent reactions in photosynthesis to occur?
LUCKY_DIMON [66]

Answer: The correct answer is- H2O ( water).

Photosynthesis is a process by which green plants and algae prepare their own food ( using CO2 and H2O) in the presence of sunlight. It is primarily divided into two phase that is light dependent and light independent phase.

During light depednent phase ( that occurs in thylakoid membrane), solar energy is absorbed by chlorophyll and converted into chemical energy in the form of ATP and NADPH.

Water is required as splitting of water ( H2O) occurs in this phase that liberates electrons ( which are passed to reaction center chlorophyll), hydrogen ions, and oxygen atom ( which combine to form oxygen molecule).

Thus, H2O is the right answer.
