Improvements in health care in less developed countries (LDCs) can produce all of the following outcomes EXCEPT for the followin
natali 33 [55]

These deficiencies in quality of care represent neither the failure of professional compassion nor necessarily a lack of resources (Institute of Medicine 2001). Rather, they result from gaps in knowledge, inappropriate applications of available technology (Murray and Frenk 2000), or the inability of organizations to change (Berwick 1989). Local health care systems may have failed to align practitioner incentives and objectives, to measure clinical practice, or to link quality improvement to better health outcomes.

Increasing evidence, much of it developed since the mid 1990s, shows that quality can be improved rapidly. However, to improve clinical practice—and thus quality of care—quality must be defined and measured, and appropriate steps must be taken (Silimper and others 2002). This chapter highlights approaches to improving clinical practice and quality of care that take place over months instead of years. Indeed, better quality can improve health much more rapidly than can other drivers of health, such as economic growth, educational advancement, or new technology. Hope this helps

gould jb, marks ar, chavez g. expansion of community-based perinatal care in california. j perinatol. 2002;22(8):630-640.
Delicious77 [7]

California databases were used to characterize infants transported in the first week after birth from 2009 to 2012.

Explanation:

 • The 22 550 neonates were divided into four groups for transportation: emergent 9383 (41.6%), urgent 8844 (39.2%), scheduled 2082 (9.2%), and other 85 (0.4%).
 • Additionally, 2152 (9.5%) requests for shipping enrollment were made.
 • The majority of transports (66%), which were sent to regional centers, came from hospitals without a neonatal intensive care unit (68%).
 • The likelihood of being transported was higher for patients whose mothers were Hispanic, under 20 years old, or had previously undergone a C-section as opposed to those who were born and cared for at the birth hospital.
 • Risk factors for neonatal transport included cardiac compressions in the delivery room, an Apgar score of less than three at 10 minutes of age, and significant birth defects.
